'Bachelor' Boy Speaks Out

By Emily Feimster

Charlie O'Connell dated 'til the cows came home on this season's "The Bachelor" on ABC, but it was one Texas Rose that stole his heart. Plus, see why Sarah W. slid out of Charlie's life before the final rose was handed out.

Turning A New Leaf:
It looks as if "Bachelor" Charlie O'Connell is no longer a loner after giving Sarah B. a diamond promise ring at this week's final rose ceremony. Well, at least for the time being. So what was it about the gal from Texas that made this New York native weak in the knees? "It's her personality. I found every girl in the house to like her," he told reporters. "I enjoy her tremendously." Surprisingly, the other contender, Krisily, took the news of being dumped like a champ. After all the drama that ensued this season, it was refreshing to see her genuine well wishes for the new couple.Just days earlier, Charlie informed, "I don't have anything bad about the girl I'm sending home - it's just that I'm more compatible with the other one." He certainly seemed relieved that no fangs came out after announcing his pick.

Though he admits that dating two girls at one time was difficult, Charlie claims his decision to keep seeing both of them once the show was over proved to be invaluable. I bet it did, considering Sarah B. was not a fan of kissing on camera! "I think there's a definite advantage if you're going to try and start a relationship afterwards. It was the greatest way to stop the 'Bachelor' rollercoaster," he explains. "Being able to talk on the phone and seeing who you miss more, working things out like, 'You live here. I live here. Could there be a future or was it just being on the show that made us like each other?'" With Sarah B. announcing her plans to move to Los Angeles, Charlie is definitely happy with his decision now.

When it comes to life with his new girlfriend, Charlie says, "I'm looking forward to just doing normal stuff and not being in hiding." So, no more wearing hats and fake mustaches? (Yes, folks, he actually had to do that). "I literally just want to walk down the street and get a cup of coffee or go to lunch in public. I want to introduce her to all my friends and let her into my life." Let's just hope Sarah B. likes his brother Jerry since there's no keeping those two apart! According to Charlie, though, he insists he'll be a much more attentive boyfriend this time around. "I'm starting this relationship as a boyfriend in trouble," he says with a deep laugh. "I owe her so much for going through all this that I'll be apologizing for the beginning part of our relationship without a doubt."

Having lived the ultimate bachelor fantasy by dating 25 women on national TV, Charlie claims the most important part of this experience is having no regrets. "One thing on the show that I'm definitely proud of is the honesty that I had with the girls," he says, noting that he didn't want any conflicts to come up with his chosen lady over moments on the show "she didn't know about beforehand. There's nothing that can be said that's going to ruin my relationship." As a result, he hopes their relationship can go the distance. "I look forward to what the future brings with me and Sarah."

Lapse of Judgment?:
Though Charlie completely redeemed himself by picking the sweet, super genuine Sarah B., it's the other Sarah (W.) who left us scratching our heads as to how she made it to the final four. Charlie finally weighs in on the girl who firmly believes her good looks kept her from winning. "I saw that Sarah W. is getting crazier and crazier," he reminisced about last week's "Women Tell All" episode. "I don't know why she's got to badmouth other girls because nobody's really badmouthing her. She's basically badmouthed herself," he said about her publicly dissing Krisily for spending the night with him. "Sarah W. would have spent the night but I have no interest in spending the night with her," adds Charlie. So what was it that he saw in ole blondie? "She was the girl who clicked right from the beginning. I was like, 'Stop the show, this girl is great,' but as it went on further she started to get weird. She was one of the only girls that went downhill as opposed to uphill," he explains. "I thought maybe the house was making her crazy but then she was telling her parents that she's kind of a diva. I kept wanting to see that girl that I saw in the beginning but obviously she's not that girl." Well, it took you long enough to figure that one out! At least in the end, good triumphed over evil.
