US WEEKLY MARCH 21, 2005

Meet the New Bachelor!

With Bob Guiney-style antics, Charlie O'Connell breathes life into the show

His last name isn't Firestone, but the newest star of The Bachelor (premiering March 28 at 9pm on ABC) has a notable pedigree of his own: Charlie O'Connell, 29, is Crossing Jordan star Jerry's kid brother. Good looks, wit, and party-boy ways seem to run in the family.

Why he was Chosen "He's an energetic, interesting guy," executive producer Mike Fleiss tells Us of the six-foot-three sometimes model and actor, most famous for his role on Fox's Sliders. Jerry (likely to make an appearance on the show) has called Charlie "talented, smart and fun."

What to expect Though everyone involved is hoping for a proposal, Fleiss says O'Connell won't be a "pondersome" as past Bachelors. "Charlie shows the girls a really good time," he explains. "It's not so serious!" (The show takes place in NYC, O'Connell's hometown.)

How the women react The bachelorettes were ambushed at 8am and given five minutes to prepare for their initial meeting. "This show's higher-octane," says Fleiss. "We have girls calling each other sluts and bitches." And that's just the first episode.
